This morning, the White House and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced federal emergency aid has been made available to the state of Texas to supplement state and local recovery efforts in areas affected by the severe winter storm that cause severe impacts in Corpus Christi and most of the state this week.
The City of Corpus Christi, Nueces County, and San Patricio county were included in the declaration, paving the way for individuals and businesses to seek grants for repairs not covered by insurance. This declaration will also assist local governments in their recovery efforts.
“President Biden‘s declaration of Nueces County as part of the 77 Texas counties designated as major disaster areas, allows for disaster assistance to be given directly to our Corpus Christi residents who have sustained damage,” said Mayor Paulette M. Guajardo. “The federal funds can provide critical aid to our residents in order to repair their homes. I would like to encourage all our residents who are eligible to apply now. The City of Corpus Christi is also evaluating FEMA funding available to repair or replace public facilities and infrastructure damage.”
Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.
