Teen Jeopardy champ donates winnings to cancer research

Over the summer, 18-year-old Avi Gupta competed on the game show Teen Jeopardy and won big – taking home about $100,000.

Since then, Avi has been amazed by the strength and bravery of Jeopardy host Alex Trebek, who is battling pancreatic cancer while continuing to host the show.

Avi wanted to honor Trebek – and also help others battling the disease – so he donated $10,000 of his winnings to cancer research, explaining that Trebek has been someone he looked up to his whole life, which made the decision pretty easy for him.

Thanks to Avi’s donation, the Knight Cancer Institute in Oregon will have more resources in place to promote early detection of pancreatic cancer, which is something Alex Trebek has been encouraging people to do for months.
